Let's not fuck about here. Probably one of the best and most enjoyable live bands in the country, nay WORLD (I can attest for this, they also once chucked a can of beer into the crowd, which I caught) Pulled Apart By Horses are asking for a favour, of sorts. They basically want people's instruments to be in their new video. Erm, probably not all that fun in itself but it's cheaper than taking it to the dump?»
It's a long way til February but that hasn't stopped rock behemoths Mogwai announcing a UK tour for just then. The other day we did a live screening premiere event type thing for their new film documentary Burning. That's available to buy on DVD and that from August 23, along with live album Special Moves.»
OK, so there was the official Caribou video for 'Sun' earlier in the week. I hope you enjoyed it. It was 'fab'. As they say. Now there's another one, this time a live video, taken from the band's performance at London's Heaven earlier in the year. It's f»
Bloody hell! A new song by Jens Lekman! What pleasure! The Australia-based Swedish indie-pop singer of much popularity last released a record what seems like a million years ago. Actually it was just three, but in such time he's contracted swine flu, moved abroad and also written and now released this song, called 'The End Of The World Is Bigger Than Love'. And it is. »
Here's Get Cape's new video for his/their new single, 'Collapsing Cities'. »
We love Everything Everything at Drowned in Sound. 97% of that love genuinely comes from the heart of Wendy Roby, but that's OK by me, she makes up for the rest of us quite enough. Anyway, we're delighted to find out - in a manner of speaking - when they'»
Right, we all know ATP love a ghoulish party or two what with the whole Nightmare Before Christmas thing. And then of course there's the Halloween party they put on every year called Release The Bats. It is just that edition which concerns us now, as they've announced the full line-up and ticket details and a few other bits and bobs.»
Celebrate Tough Love's birthday with Calories. In video format.»
Super!»
So Mogwai have a virtual film screening for the wonderful Burning tonight at 8PM. On these very pages. There's not a great deal more you need to know about this, it's a good time for us in the UK. Most people won't be in work. Anyway, there's still a few hours left to go, but get back here at 8PM to see the magic happen. Or discuss it with the social media style widget below the film. »
Drowned in Sound's alternative to the Mercury Music prize returns... »
New BRS video!»
Tim Harrington and his beard and his belly and Les Savy Fav announced a "one-off" London show, to coincide with their album launch. You could almost call it an album launch show, y'know. Anyway, that was at Cargo for September 13, but now there's a bunch of new dates on the way.»
This is something you don't see every day. And, for Jack White, it's not something you get to do every day. If it's not a once in a lifetime type thing, then it's very close to it. Yes, as you probably already know, Jack White performed at The White House.»
This is a hook-up that just had to happen. I mean, even disregarding the fact that they are two of the most talk about acts in recent times and, some might argue, two of the best in those very times...there's more to it than that. »
The Walkmen will release their sixth studio album later this year through Bella Union. Wonderful news. It's called Lisbon and will see release on October 11. There may be a little while to go before that date but, to whet your appetite I guess, there's a track from the record available for download, entirely for free.»
Very soon indeed Mr Gruff Rhys (not Simon Farnaby, as the picture seems to indicate) releases an album with the spectacularly-named Tony Da Gatorra who, amongst other things, is a video repairman, apparently. Part of his musical arsenal includes the "Gatorra", some kind of weird-arsed keytar type thingy.»
At first I thought that was El Guincho sitting in front a pile of cymbals. It turns out it's not. It's records, either made from gold, gold-plated or just sprayed gold. »
To a hushed audience in a studio room in Covent Garden Lauren Laverne announced this years's Mercury Music Prize nominees. The expected names - The XX, Dizzee Rascal, Corinne Bailey Rae - were all there, as well as a few mild surprises - Villagers anyone?»
Back in June Sam Duckworth, a.k.a. Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly posted a new track from his forthcoming record, which is titled...well, it's self-titled, as we've just found out. We've also found out a couple of other things about his third record, namely its tracklisting, album art and release date, details of all are below.»
In times like these barely any collaborations are genuine surprises, more pleasant revelations. You can add another one to this list, too, as the much-in-the-news Tom Jones has said that he's going to work with the not-so-much-in-the-news-as-perhaps-they'd-like The Killers. Could be crap, could be quite good. We shall see.»
Way back over three years ago the fantastic Japanese group Boredoms did something quite spectacular. They played with a whole 77 drummers as part of their ensemble. One can only imagine the sort of righteous noise this made. Unless you were there, in which case no imagination needed, just cold hard memories.»
Indie-pop behemoths Belle & Sebastian have announced a UK tour for later in the year. December, to be precise. So far we have a handful of dates which sandwich their curation and performance at/of the Bowlie 2 Weekender at Butlins in Minehead. »
A double whammy of Vampire Weekend-related news for you here, some of it good, some of it less so-good. First of all the good. The band have announced a fresh set of dates for later in the year, though only a handful, but surely enough to get your fill. They'll play six shows at these places on these dates. Check them out!»
A few days ago Deerhunter surprised us, somewhat, with the announcement of a new record for September. That was pleasant. They also announced details about flyering the shit out of it in the run-up to its release. You've probably stuck a few up yourself in the time since then. A»
The returning Klaxons have inspired and delighted us all with their various titbits throughout the past few months, not least of all the revelation that their album cover would be this particular beauty. They don't do things by half, do these Klaxons. »

Santa Monica based radio station KCRW yesterday broadcast an interview with director David Lynch (Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, Eraserhead, etc) and Brian 'Danger Mouse' Burton (Gnarls Barkley, Broken Bells, The Grey Album, etc) about their collaboration on the Dark Night of the Soul project.»
Tom Jones has reacted angrily to last week’s leaked email from Island Records vice president David Sharpe in an interview with Drowned in Sound. The email, which asked if the decision for Jones to record gospel and blues songs for new album Praise & Blame was a “sick joke”, was printed in the Sunday Times and the Telegraph. »
